Before Things Change

This should bring us current, before a new school year and a new life season starts!

Danica

The end of her 8th grade year brought a speaking part at National Junior Honor Society's induction ceremony, Honor Roll Ceremony (straight A's!), and High Def Student weekend at church. It was hard saying goodbye to many of the kids she's gone to school with since Kinder, but I think they will stay in touch through technology and new adventures await at a new district and school!

Guess which High Def color team they were on?

Spring brought tryouts for the Rock Hill Cheer team. She's one of 15 freshman who made the squad, with 45 total including JV and Varsity. Her 'big sis' Ashlyn will be a senior and gave her surprise gifts until who she was was revealed. She got to perform in a end of year pep rally and pre-game football scrimmage.

She's had several summer practices and attended a 3 night NCA Cheer Camp. She comments that they move so much faster than middle school cheer and likes her coaches and is building relationships. We're grateful she'd has this group prior to school starting.

Frontier Camp is where she went for the second year and met back up with a bunch of girls from last summer for 6 days of unplugged summer camp fun!

Doing a skit (in the hat).

Cars and Home Projects

It seems the first hail storm of the year, in February, kicked off a series of car 'situations'.

Both the boys cars were parked outside and sustained damage, and per insurance, were both totaled; Lincoln took the insurance money for his VW Jetta, then sold the car (for more than what he paid for it 2 years ago!). Alex had the hail damage to the Genesis fixed, but then a few weeks later got in a minor fender bender and had to have it fixed again! Thankfully no injuries from his first accident, just increased premiums- ouch! He just sold it today before heading off to college.

After selling his, Linc found an Audi S6 he liked, so he and Scott hopped on a plane to Atlanta, then drove it home the same day! He's had a bunch of mechanical issues, warning lights and some break downs (!!), and despite Scott's 'tinkering' to fix, had to have some major ($$) work done on it! So, he's working on selling that now.

All the buying and selling gave Scott car fever, so he Carvana'd his Santa Fe and bought an old Porsche Cayenne, which he's enjoyed detailing, personalizing and fixing little things. And washing- a lot.

So now, if there's storm coming, it's 3 cars plus a golf cart squeezed into the 3 car garage, or blankets for what's outside.

The hot tub was delivered, just in time for a Texas summer!

We had a motorized screen installed on the west facing back patio.

Scott made Danica swings for her porch.

We added a closet to Linc's media bedroom. "We" means Scott did a majority of the work and I handed him tools; we make a good team that way.

Lincoln

Had a successful and uneventful wisdom teeth removal surgery. Ironically, Alex was short 1 wisdom tooth and Linc had 1 extra!? Anaesthesia  is so strange, they appeared to have it all together, except for some slurred speech and looking drunk, but have zero recollection of it!

After multiple warnings on his Smartwatch about an elevated heart rate, Lincoln met with a pediatric cardiologist who did EKG, Echocardiogram, blood work, and wore a monitor. He was diagnosed with Tachycardia (elevated heart rate), of 103 BPM resting, which is 'normal' for some people. He's had several painful chest tightening episodes as well, but those checked out as 'not significant'. Although we're thankful nothing serious was found, we wish he was more 'normal'! But the good news is he hasn't had any migraines since March!

Lincoln resigned his position with Cinemark in July, after 2 years with the company. He was ready for a change and more pay and got hired on at Lowe's. However, they were very unorganized and after 2 training sessions he was never scheduled to work or heard from them! Since he most likely will not work his freshman year, it didn't make sense to get hired somewhere for a few weeks, then quit for school..so he's had a very relaxing summer!

Coach Brandon, his boss, theater general manager, and long-time soccer coach tragically died during a work accident shortly after Linc left. He was a wonderful family man and a mentor for Linc and so many others.

Alex has spent a lot of his summer lifeguarding at Apex, and has the dark tan to prove it! (Can you hear my nagging about suncreen and a hat?) He just finished up his last shift and is invited to return on breaks if he chooses to. Life's about to change for him, and us; more on that soon... 😀😰😱😳

The fab 5 spent one last hurrah at Andrew's lake house.

I can't not acknowledge and congratulate niece Emma on her graduation (a valedictorian!) and soon to be University of Arizona Wildcat! 💓
