Lake House: Update

Progress!! We've spent many weekends working hard, and with our handyman there during the week, feel like we're getting closer (and more over budget!) to being ready for our May 1 rental availability. Check out our VRBO listing:  https://www.vrbo.com/790965?unitId=1338903

 Recent work:
  • Foundation leveled: Long awaited and much anticipated! 35 new piers installed with no damage inside and no more noticeably sloped floors! The house was raised 4 inches in some places to bring it to level.
All the trash cleared from underneath and the old siding off = less moisture underneath and
 less mildew smell.

The dreaded and monstrous trash pile.

New horizontal boards for under-deck skirting, in the process of going up.
We're very pleased with the look.

  • Septic system: Fixing it was unexpected (and un-budgeted), but with a new pump, it's probably in the best working order, ever!  It required removing the deck on the front of the house, outside the guest room, which we've decided not to replace.
  • Plumbing: New plumbing lines throughout, to replace the existing sprinkler pipe (!)  and two new bathrooms (only one budgeted for), laundry and kitchen sink.  Here's the master shower we tiled last weekend.
  • New cabinets and appliances: Are installed, now just waiting on counter tops.
  • Flooring: Completed master bath the same as upstairs.
  • Painting: I'm using chalk paint for the first time. The dresser and the kitchen chairs which were left behind by the old owners have been updated. It's pretty amazing what a difference paint can make! Kitchen table is next.

The kids have brought friends out to the lake several times to make their time there more bearable. Unfortunately, with  Mom and Dad working on a seemingly endless project list, and chilly, wet weather, there's just not much to keep little people busy. We tell them it'll be worth it!

Peyton came on a wet one, so they challenged themselves to 'change a different color'.
Mission accomplished. Once again, the lake flooded over the sea wall and our dock; the third time this season.
