The Newest Everett

Meet Boris, the five month old white boxer we adopted Wednesday!
We've been doing lots of research on breeds; big dog, family/kid friendly, little grooming, moderate exercise, not scent oriented(!) and had narrowed it down to several: Boxer, Doberman Pinscher, Great Dane and Weimaraner. We visited several shelters and homes, met some dogs and decided that a Boxer would probably be the best fit for us. We stumbled upon this awesome shelter in Dallas called Operation Kindness to see a two-year old Boxer when they told us they had a five-month old who'd just become available. Pretty much the moment we saw him, we knew he was for us.

Temporarily named Boris Karloff (Frankenstein's monster!), he had a rough start. Operation Kindness rescued him from another shelter a month ago because he was sick with Parvo and they were going to euthanize him. His time at Operation Kindness was spent in isolation, was just 'fixed' on Wednesday and we were the first to see him. It'd been a least a month since he had been outside and it's was tough to see his personality, but he seemed mellow and they said he was a favorite of the vets. Boris is healthy and 30 pounds now and not deaf, as many white boxers are.

He is awesome!! He can sit, doesn't jump and is very gentle. A happy boy, his whole back half shakes when he greets us and always wants companionship. He's pretty well house trained and is getting more comfortable, picking up kid toys or random stuff that he shouldn't, so we're practicing "no, drop, leave it" a lot. I've forgotten how puppihood is like having babies-constantly keeping an eye on them since quiet may mean trouble!! Looks like the Christmas decorations won't be coming out this weekend. We planned on him staying in Bay's old crate the first night, but it was clear he wouldn't fit. Instead, he was such a good boy and slept on his bed on the floor next to us all night!

We have a long list of names to consider; some Thanksgiving related (Pilgrim, Turkey), some football (Romo, TD) and some color (Flurry) and other random ones!

Doesn't look like this doggie door is going to work..

Sweet, sleepy boy.
